About Ohio Wildfire Season
Ohio's fire season is legally codified around two windows, spring from March through May before green up and fall from October through November after leaf drop, and the state formally bans open burning in unincorporated areas from six in the morning to six at night across those exact five months. Leaf litter and woody debris accumulate across hilly Appalachian foothill terrain in the southeast, contrasting with flatter, more agricultural land through the rest of the state. Ohio genuinely carries low wildfire risk overall, since lush summer vegetation acts as a natural barrier most of the year. The state's worst fire years, in 1952, 1963, and 1988, were all driven by summer drought, proof that an unusual dry year can override the normal spring and fall calendar entirely.Ohio Fire Map Today
